Happy Friday everyone! Today is all about gray… my favorite color to use when coloring. I saw Neat and Tangled So Fly stamp set last month and my heart melted. These two besties are so adorable! and I love the plane. It reminded me of the vintage pictures I’ve seen of our nation’s aviation history… the sepia and black & white photos of proud pilots and their airplanes. I wanted that vintage photo look for my cards, so I pulled out my gray Copic Markers and started coloring.
These cards were quite simple to make. Since I used only one family of gray for each card, I only had to focus on shading. I used my MISTI to stamp the images out twice with Memento Black Tuxedo ink. It took about an hour to color all the images. I used W00, 0, 1, 3, 5, & 7 for the warm card, and C00, 0, 1, 3, 5, & 7 for the cool card. After coloring, I put the images pack into the MISTI and re-stamped again, this time using black Versafine Claire ink to make all the lines bright and crisp.
I used the coordinating dies to cut the images out, and set them aside. For the background, I taped two panels of watercolor paper to a clipboard. I added one tap of Storm Cloud Nuvo Shimmer Powder (cool tone) and one swipe of Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink (warm tone) onto my craft mat, and sprayed them with water to dilute. I brushed clean water on both watercolor panels, and quickly painted the colors onto the papers in an Ombre style, darkest on bottom.
I used my heat tool to dry the panels. I trimmed the panels down, added strong double-sided adhesive to their backs, and attached them to 2 pre-cut A2 sized card bases. I used Scrapbook Adhesive 3D squares to attach the images. My last step was the sentiments. I heat embossed them onto black cardstock, using Nuvo Clear Mark embossing ink and Lawn Fawn white embossing powder. I cut the sentiments out with My Favorite Things Stitched Sentiments Strips Dienamics, and added them to the card fronts with Lawn Fawn Glue Tube.
(Note- for the It’s Plane To See card, the inside sentiment says “We’re meant to be.” How cute is that?!!)
I hope this inspires you to create something new in grey tones. Thanks for stopping by!
