Craftin’ Desert Divas Grateful Trolls Release

Hello crafty friends! Thanks for joining me today for Craftin Desert Divas Day 2 Blog Hop, featuring their August release. I have the honor of being a guest designer for their new stamp set Grateful Trolls. I did a sneak peak blog on this stamp set earlier this week. Be sure to stop by Craftin Desert Divas blog to see all the fantastic projects the talented design team has made this past week, and check out all the new products that are now available in their store.

This little boy troll and his friend… they make me want to grab a scarf and some hot cider! I remember playing in the leaves as a little girl, no matter how cold it was, and being so happy. when I saw this stamp, I knew I was going to make a shaker card… my 2nd shaker card this week for this stamp set! I guess falling leaves and fall colored sequins go together in my world. I decided to try something new with this card. I used vellum instead of acetate for a more subdued look. I wanted the focus to be about these cute friends. My first step for this card- coloring the image. I used a lot of Copic colors for this scene:

  • Boy: Hair- YR02, E33, E35, E37  Skin- E04, E21, E51, E50   Nose/Cheeks- R20  Pants B97, B95   Shirt B93, B32   Scarf- YR68, E08, YR23, Y08
  • Squirrel: Fur- E33, E35, E37  Face/Belly YR20, E21, E11,   Nose/Ears/Mouth R20, R35, R22   Scarf B93, B32

After coloring, I cut the image out and set it aside. Now for the background. I wanted a festive fall… something! but I didn’t know what to do. So I went to my #1 favorite drawer in my craft room: the Distress Oxides drawer!! I use these inks on 90% of my cards. I can’t recommend them enough to people. I pulled out 4 newly released colors: Ground Espresso, Mowed Lawn, Crushed Olive, and Ripe Persimmon, and Aged Mahogany from the release before. I also used Ranger Distress Resist spray to give the background lots of texture. I added 4 layers of color, spraying the resist spray in between each layer and using my heat tool to dry the paper. Before adding another layer of color, I would use an old t-shirt to buff away any ink that was on the resist spray spots. The finishing result was beautiful.

I cut a circle out, then closed the circle with Vellum, to make the shaker window. I added foam adhesive around the circle, then added Fall Harvest and Pumpkin Spice sequins into the window. I closed the back with a piece of acetate, then added foam adhesive to the rest of the back. I adhered the cardfront to an A2 sized cardbase. I used Scrapbook Adhesive foam squares to attach the little boy to the card. My last step was the sentiment. I  heat-embossed the included sentiment, using Versamark ink and Nuvo Glacier White embossing powder, onto dark brown cardstock. I trimmed the words down, then used foam squares to attach to the card.

  1. These new stamps are just way to cute! I don’t have a die cutter but there is a company that makes shaker card kits so I can make shaker cards & I love yours! Your card is adorable & colorful. I love, love, love, love it!
