Today begins the MFT Flowers In Bloom Card Kit Release previews! The Kit will be available this Tuesday, June 25th, at 10am EST. Here’s what’s included in the kit:
The three small bottles in the kit are Ken Oliver Color Burst Watercolor Powders. These concentrated powders give unique results with every use. For today’s card, I decided to use the powders sparingly, using a spray bottle and my gloved finger to move the colors.
I started by stamping and white heat-embossing the flowers onto the included Ken Oliver Watercolor Paper. I taped the panel down to a clip board with painter’s tape, then prepped my area for some messy craft time. I had paper towels folded, a dry paint brush, a spray bottle filled with water, baby wipes, and gloves. I lightly tapped Crushed Coral Color Burst onto the flower petals. I used the dry brush to wipe the powder off the rest of the panel. I lightly sprayed the paper with water. I moved the the colors around on the flower by gently tapping with my finger. Once I was happy with color placement, I used my heat tool to dry the panel. I did the process again on the petals, this time keeping the color closer to the middle, then used my heat tool to dry the panel.
For the background, I gently tapped Tropical Teal Powder on the top, and Jelly Bean Green on the bottom. I brushed any powder that landed on the petals away, then added one tap of Crushed Coral powder around the flowers. I sprayed the paper with water, and let the colors move. I used paper towels to pick up any colors that started pooling together. I dried the panel one last time with my heat tool, then used an Olive Green Zig Clean Color Real Brush to color in the stems. I used a Rectangle STAX to help me pick out my favorite part of the panel, taped it down, and ran it through my die cut machine. I stamped a Greetings and Salutations sentiment onto a trimmed card front, and attached it to an A2 size card base with foam adhesive. I used thin foam squares to add the flowers.

I’m impressed that you could color the flowers and then the background separately with the Color Burst powders. These are fun to use but very hard to control. I’ll have to try your method with the dry brush. Love your card.g

Thank you! Yes, the less water you use, the more concentrated they stay. Just dry, and brush away any lose powder
