Thinking Of You

DIY Framed Ornaments + Video

Hi friends! I’m back with another ornament idea. I found a pack of ornament frames at my local Hobby Lobby. After 50% off, they were $2.50. They come in a pack of six, and I thought the frames would be perfect for framing some rice papers I have. I did my best to link the papers I used, but most arent in stock anymore. I did leave the information if you want to search for them. I did link two Etsy shops at the bottom of this post that I shop at. (Super fast shipping!)

How cute are these?? The frames were originally Kraft brown, and I painted them with DIY Bohemian Blue paint. I added a faux crackle onto the frame with an Iron Orchid Designs Vintage Textures stamp, and Sage paint. I finished the frames with a top coat, using DIY’s Big Top.

Paper information:

The images come from a variety of rice papers. I decoupaged them onto the frame circles, which I had painted white first. I added a layer of Mod Podge to them, then I crackled the scenes. I used a 2-part crackle from Pentart. Once the crackle was dry, I brushed DIY Decrepit Dust over the cracks to emphasize them.

Paper information:

  • Birds: Dekupaz DEKU046 (sold out, no link available)
  • Saint Nicholas: Itd. Collection R1006

I also made 2 red frames. These came out super vibrant. I stamped the faux crackle with Barely Pink paint.

Paper information:

Here’s a closer look at the crackle I did on the images. I love how it ages them. And how cute is this ornament? I love this outdoor scene with the children and the adorable dachshund.

Paper information:

ITD Collection R1002 (sold out, not listed anymore)

These two birds I show in the video. They are from the same paper. I crackled the ornament on the right, so you can compare crackle vs. uncrackled.

Once I had all the ornaments put back together, I finished them with red velvet ribbon. You can watch my whole process HERE:

I tried to link as many papers as I could, but they dont stay in stock for too long. Here are two stores I frequent a lot for Pentart and rice-decoupage paper: KatsDesignsKorner and LittleBitOfEveryIN.

I hope I was able to explain all of the steps well. I had a lot of fun making them, and can’t wait until the next I can sit down and make ornaments! I’ll be back shortly with a paper project, so I will see you then!
