Background Stamping

Happy Monday crafty friends! I did a lot of background stamping this past weekend, and want to share my process with you. I used a variety of new Distress Oxide inks and The Stamp Market’s Painted Polka Dot background stamp.

Background 1:

Using my MISTI, I stamped the background onto watercolor paper, and heat embossed using Nuvo embossing ink and Lawn Fawn white embossing powder. I then used 4 pastel Distress Oxide inks to make a emboss-resist background: Squeezed Lemonade, Carved Pumpkin, Shaded Lilac, and Tumbled Glass. I added one layer of color at a time. I used my craft mat to dab ink onto in random spots. I then sprayed the ink with water, and smooshed the stamped paper into the ink. I used my heat tool to dry the paper before doing the next layer. After the last layer of ink was dry, I used a baby wipe and carefully wiped the ink off the embossed polka dots.

Background 2:

This time I made the rainbow background first. I used the Following Distress Oxide Inks: Dusty Concord, Stormy Sky, Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed, Ripe Persimmon, and Barn Door. I used a piece of acetate to add each color. Next, I stamped the background with embossing ink (it’s VERY important that your ink pad is clean), and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I then repeated the inking process. The ink captured under the clear embossing powder is lighter, giving the polka dots an awesome distressed look.

To Finish the cards, I die-cut My Favorite Things Hello and Avery Elle’s Wonky Circle Frames. I die-cut hello in the circles, and glued the hello circle onto another circle to close the back. I in-lay the words, glued the circles to the trimmed panels, and then attached the panels to pre-made top-folding A2 sized card bases. I made four cards in total.
